I started working at a coffee shop recently…. Kind of.
When I started it was made clear that I wouldn’t be working a lot, and only once a week for 4 hours, but that in the future it might increase.
This was fine, I mostly wanted to learn more about it and they make killer coffee so I figured once a week was alright until they could increase my hours or I had been there long enough to start sending out resumes to other places.
Well, it’s a lot less…. Organized then I expected. My biggest issue is that they don’t tell me until the day before if im working that week- and for the past 3-4 weeks I haven’t been told to come.
I was also told that they would teach me more about espresso, but any shift I have had has been just making cold brew drinks.
I make about $70 a shift. Not a lot but enough to where it means I’ve missed about $200 from not working. They will probably invite me back to work soon, I think, but at what point do I just say “hey- I need steady work or else I’m going to have to start looking elsewhere”
Right before they stopped my shifts, they were talking about increasing my hours to 12-18 hours a week, like as planned when I first started.
