Hurtful advice from those not currently seeking a job

Any other job seekers really frustrated by the people who tell you, “Just get a job - any job!” as if you’re some loser who’s not trying hard enough or is doing it all wrong? How do you respond to people like that?

I’m about at the end of my rope searching for a job and just got told that little gem by some jerk on another subreddit. I cannot find a full-time job in spite of my degree and 20-plus years of experience no matter what I do and have tried everything - job boards, staffing agencies, my state employment office, contacting companies directly, reaching out to friends/former colleagues, fluffing up my resume, dumbing it down, and on and on.

I can’t even find a part-time job, such as filling grocery orders at Walmart or working the front counter at a paint store. Everything - and I mean everything - has turned out to be a dead end and I’m lucky if I even get a canned rejection email. I’ve lost count of how many places I’ve applied to. Most applications go unanswered and most employers in my area will not accept in-person or traditional hard-copy applications anymore. Nearly every single one will direct you to a link or job board and tell you to apply online, which ends up getting you nowhere. How is anyone supposed to find a job when things are like this? And how do these advice-givers think saying that to people like us is really helpful or will make a difference?
