Hi Reddit, I want some insights from the other side of the fence. I am in a leadership position in IT/Finance. I need to hire a Sysadmin for the Users, whose responsibilities range from installing software to imaging laptops to helping users with their day-to-day IT problems; you almost call it an IT help desk. Still, I never liked that as it has become such a negative term.

I tried advertising on LinkedIn, but even though I had stated that you need to be able to work in the EU/Netherlands, you have to be an EU citizen or at least have a residence permit. I get about 1500+ applications from what feels like half of India's Call center employees, and don't get me wrong, I do not care what cultural background you have, male or female. You don't even need to speak Dutch (I am originally from Germany, so I understand it well, but I don't speak it either)

So yeah, it's a colossal waste of time ...

I want a person who knows how to deal with computers. When asked how to reset the DNS cache, what to do, and how to change the boot order of drives, there is no need to know how to establish CRON jobs on a Hyperscaler environment. Yes, an regular IT Person. If you can convince me in the interview that you have the skills, I don't even care about degrees. I would put self-learner at the top of the list.

My Budget is more than fair: between 60k and 90k, depending on experience. The median salary (not minimum) in the Netherlands is 41k.

It's a caveat, but that's a legal requirement in finance. You need to be able to pass a background check.

And it's a safe job for a year contract which goes into an indefinite contract after that year.

How many applications have I received that fit regular IT persons with EU work permits/EU citizenship? ZERO It's 1.5k Indian Call Center and 100 people from other banks asking six-digit salaries, and I suspect they are just middle managers with zero hands-on experience who then tell me I should hire more IT people :P
